ENGELMANN

1875

Alfred Engelmann founds the company as a manufacturer of hemp rope.

 

1920 – 1930

In the 1920s, to keep up with technical developments, production is expanded to include steel wire rope. What is initially considered to be a supplement to the existing range becomes the core business with the growing demand for wire rope in the industry. The production of fibre rope declines in equal measure.

 

1932

The vom Hofe corporate group acquires all shares in the founding family business. The production portfolio remains largely unchanged until the beginning of the 1980s.

 

1950 – 1960

Market leader in Lower Saxony for rope and lifting technology for heavy industry, dockyards, mining of ores, the paper industry and the energy sector.

 

1982

Increasing imports and an accompanying drop in prices make it necessary to reassess the situation to secure the site in Hanover for the long term. The changeover in production to fine rope begins. With its high quality products, ENGELMANN very quickly makes an excellent name for itself in this market segment.

 

1984

Fine rope production commences with constant expansion of production capacities.

 

1997
