Kendrion

Industrial Drive Systems develops and produces electromechanical brakes and clutches for the industrial drive technology. Applications are for accelerating, decelerating, positioning, holding and securing movable drive components and loads.

 

They are mainly used in robotics and automation technology, in machine tools and production machines, in medical technology and machine handling.

 

The headquarter is positioned in Villingen (Germany) but Industrial Drive Systems has further subsidiaries in the UK, China, Italy and Aerzen (Germany) as well as a bunch of sales representatives all over the whole world.

 

Tradition and progress

 

The long-established BINDER brand laid the foundations for the successful development of Industrial Drive Systems. In the year 1911, Wilhelm Binder founded his company and began at the start of the 1920s with the development and production of electromagnetic components. In 1997, the company was taken over by the Dutch group Schuttersveld N.V., today Kendrion N.V..

 

The former magneta GmbH & Co. KG belongs to the Kendrion Group since 2010. As the present Kendrion (Aerzen) GmbH, the innovative company continues to develop and produce electromagnetic clutches and brakes along with magnetic particle clutches and brakes at its site in Aerzen. Cone Drive

Cone Drive is the world leader in double-enveloping worm gear technology

Samuel I. Cone, a civilian machinist and draftsman working at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia, manufactured an improved Hindley worm gear and patented a practical method of generating the elements of this double-enveloping worm gearing. Michigan Tool Company became the exclusive licensee under Samuel Cone’s Patent to develop the cutting tools, machines and manufacturing processes needed to produce double-enveloping worm gearing. Cone Drive Division built a plant in Detroit, Michigan and started production of double-enveloping worm gearing.

 

The U.S. Navy saw the space saving ability as well as accuracy features of Cone Drive double-enveloping worm gearing and soon nearly every gun was driven by Cone Drive gearing. Michigan tool built a second and larger plant in Detroit, Michigan. On October 1, 1942, the United State’s first jet propelled fighter aircraft aka jet, the Bell XP-59A “AIRCOMET”, took its first flight. The landing gearboxes in both the main and nose wheels were Cone Drive worm gears. By the end of WWII Cone Drive worm gears were used in all branches of the service from aircraft to submarines.

 

The Cone Drive Division of Michigan Tool, looking to become more competitive, decided to get away from a tool manufacturing environment and moved the manufacturing operation to Traverse City. Ex-Cell-O Corporation acquired Michigan Tool Company of which Cone Drive was a division.

 

The Cone Drive Dynamometer Test Lab was moved from Walled Lake, Michigan to Traverse City, Michigan. The Gear Institute was initiated and classes for customers began. Cone Drive won the CASA/SME LEAD (Leadership and Excellence in the Application and Development of computer-integrated manufacturing) Award. Textron acquired Ex-Cell-O Corporation of which Cone Drive was a part. The Cone Drive Ludington manufacturing facility was opened in Ludington, Michigan.

 

Cone Drive Zero Backlash worm gearing technology awarded “Product of the Year” by Plant Engineering magazine. Cone Drive became ISO 9001 Certified. Cone Drive Ludington Operations moved into a new state of the art manufacturing facility in Ludington, Michigan. David Brown Group of the United Kingdom was acquired by Textron Inc. and joined Cone Drive as part of Textron Industrial Gears.

 

Textron Inc. announced it had completed the acquisition of AB Benzlers of Sweden. AB Benzlers was then joined with the Cone Drive and David Brown businesses to form Gear Technologies. Cone Drive celebrated its 50th Anniversary in Traverse City, Michigan. Cone Drive launched a new product: With the invention and development of the new Conex Helicoidal gear geometry, the Series B was designed to address an underserved market with truly unique competitive advantages.

 

In November 2008, the old gear technology division of Textron incorporating Cone Drive, Benzlers and David Brown was bought by Clyde Blowers. In November 2012 Cone Drive was restructured within Clyde Blowers, and is currently an autonomous platform company separate from David Brown and Benzlers. Walton

Established in 1942, Walton Engineering has been designing and manufacturing temperature control systems for more than 60 years. These systems are sold world-wide, and our direct operated range of valves is also manufactured in Japan.

Production began with valves powered by simple bi-metal coils which were originally installed on diesel engines for rail locomotives. The bi-metal coil was later replaced by a fixed range wax element incorporated into a mechanism within the valve body, the position of the valve’s rotor being determined by the expansion of the wax element. A variety of alternative actuation and control methods have been added over more recent years, so that today a full range of temperature control products is available.

The Royal and other navies have relied on Walton systems for over forty years, and many of the original valves are still operational. Walton products are approved by the UK’s Ministry of Defence and all leading classification societies.

Walton is accredited by National Quality Assurance to the international quality assurance standard BS EN ISO 9001:2008. A copy of our current certificate is available here. This provides customers with the highest level of confidence in Walton’s quality control processes and procedures. All products are subjected to in-process and final inspection by a dedicated inspector. Sales orders are tracked through Walton’s computerised manufacturing management system which controls all aspects of production and ensures that a high standard of delivery performance is maintained.
